Artist Statement - Joanne Gregory

Every seashell has a story and is beautiful and unique. Each shell once housed a living being. When the animal passed, it left us a lasting memory of its beauty. What I love about this medium is that whatever I create can never be replicated. While I always begin each project with a design idea, the shells guide me in their own unique direction. I enjoy the process of placing one shell at a time into my work and anticipating its outcome. Whether I am creating a Sailors’ Valentine, Bead Embroidered Piece or Shell Inspired Jewelry, I take great satisfaction that these once living creatures live on in beautiful art that can be shared, worn and become a family heirloom.
